Dystopian Nightmare

Two figures emerge in clouds of fog into a rubber roadway wrapped with giant rings of copper. A neon sign radiates in the distance and notes their arrival to a strange new land. The pulsing light illuminates movement of a steady glow streaming down the path towards them. An invisible river smacks through their bodies and continues it’s movement down the gargantuan cable canal. Other smaller cables dangle off of tall, dark, marble obelisks and a menacing buzz fills the air.

Laughter between the two figures left long ago.

They swam through the poisoned reservoir and choked on the images of shadows cupping their hands to drink the foul liquid. A putrid silence resonates in their steps now as they continue forward at a quickening pace.

Tinfoil daisies twinkle crookedly on the pale horizon.

“Everything’s forgotten here.”

One thinks quietly.

“They edit in what they want now.”

The other agrees in speechless acknowledgement.

Senses become confused as the mind wanders lost in the constant humming of the glow. A unified statement of intent becomes blurred in the stretching of a landscape seemingly moving with the travellers. An enigmatic presence begins to root itself in the psyche and soon the two are walking away from one another. They are in pursuit. A smooth hollow piece of floating space grows in the place between their eyes. Burning. Soon they are so far from each other that they can’t make out which direction the other has gone…
